Sambal hijau

A recipe I got from my 3rd BIL. He learnt how to cook it while he was outstation in Indonesia.

This condiment is called Sambal Hijau (Green Chili Condiment) but ours did not look green cos we mixed it with a little of red chilies and could not find green tomatoes.  You can eat it with boiled tapioca or rice or you can mix it with “ikan kering” (fried salted fish) like what we did below.  Very NICE!

Sambal Hijau

Ingredients:
5 green chilies
4 green birds eye chilies
2 green tomatoes
2 onions
2 garlic
2-3 lime (squeeze the juice)
Salt and sugar to taste
A little oil

Method:
Steam or boil the chilies, tomatoes, onions and garlic.
After that blend coarsely or pound the ingredients by hand using mortar/pestle.
Next, heat a little oil in a pan.
Fry the pounded ingredients till fragrant.
Add the lime juice, salt and sugar to taste.
Once done, off the fire and let it cool.
After that you can mix in the fried salted fish and you’re ready to eat it!

Simple right? 🙂

Eating it with rice and/or boiled tapioca … Yumss!!
